Character's Age: Adult Cybertronian. This may make him a million years old or so, but maturity-wise the actual age changes nothing.

Character History: Megatron IDW Comics History
Point in Canon: Megatron will be arriving not long after his first major victory in the Third Great Cybertronian War. Contextually, this means he's just burnt the city of Kaon in active protest of the Senate's corruption and treatment of the working class, and has willingly taken innocent lives to make his point. (He would argue as to the innocence of said lives, himself.) The Decepticons as an army have just been formed, and the mechs who make up his upper echelon (Soundwave, Starscream) are now at his side.

Character Personality:
There was a point in time when Megatron was a quiet, peaceful miner from Tarn, living in a world that was quickly polarizing depending on one's class. As a miner, he had few rights under this system, and recognized the issues that society was miring itself further and further into, seeing them in his daily life amidst the working class. Being intelligent enough to see where this was heading, he wrote a number of essays and agendas (and poetry) citing both problems and solutions, hoping that a resolution could be achieved through hard work and cooperation.
It was not to be.
In the many attempts that came to silence him, he was put through a gamut of traumatic situations: being beaten almost to death in jail, being sent to a dangerous mining asteroid, being in the midst of a slaughter when the miners were fired upon by a firing squad, being forced to fight gladiator-style and kill others for food...
Needless to say the mech that came out was sadistic and bitter, no longer interested in the peaceful solutions of his younger days.
Having survived through situations in which literally hundreds of others died around him, Megatron is a hardy bastard, cunning and ruthless. His fighting skills were honed in years of death-matches, and his leadership skills were tested in group combat fights. He'll do anything necessary to win, including disposing of the previous group leader when said leader was no longer capable of making the best decisions.
Despite the brutality that was beaten into him, however, Megatron has not lost his passion. He is not easily given to depression, and he has a burning desire to not only live, but thrive, and take those down who stand in his way. He wants what he has always wanted: A good life, good opportunities, and a good world to experience those in, but he also knows that it is up to him to achieve those things, and will make the sacrifices necessary to see them through.
He can't do this alone. For that matter, he rarely has done it alone, originally working with a fellow miner to hone his ideas when he wrote, and later working with his team to ensure their survival in the ring. He has been shown to care and sympathize with those around him, especially his peers and companions in the subjugated working class. It is this sympathy that originally gives him a hint of charisma when writing, and later gives him the charisma to build him an army. He knows what he wants, he knows how to get it, and he has the strength and confidence to see it through...which, to a group of mechs who have been treated unfairly for the entirety of their existence, is the first hope they've had.
It is his intention to lead Cybertron into a new era, after all: to give everyone the chance to forge their own path based on their own strengths and merits, instead of being limited by what they were constructed as. This defines everything for him...
...and he will stop at nothing to achieve it.
